In 1966, the Swedish Knee Cage, designed to control hyperextension of the knee and allow easy flexion during walking has been modified because commercial devices were too large and expensive. The modified version was made cheaper and can be made for infants as young as 10 months. The knee cage is fabricated in less than an hour with the use of thermoplastic of the low-temperature type and it is equipped with a rigid portion designed in one piece having bars vertically and horizontally reinforced of webbing straps and Velafoam which is placed at the axis of the knees. There are straps attached at its top and bottom borders and it has been used successfully since 1986 for children with behavioral disorders such as mild cerebral palsy, to aid them in their ambulation and increasing their quadriceps motor power as it has been found to function as a knee stabilizer.

Nowadays, the Swedish knee cage is used to effectively control back knee as well as knee hyperextension and it is hinged by tracking accurately the natural knee motion at the same time allowing normal walk and a sitting position that’s comfortable. It fits when used either to the left or the right knee. It provides orthotic management of genu recurvatum (back knee and knee hyperextension). Its pressure system that operates in easy three point ways allow stability of the knees, while the pressure pad located at the posterior part may be easily adjusted for easy facilitation to make it a perfect fit for the wearer, as well as for proper application and easy removal.

It is made of vinyl dipped aluminum that can be easily shaped to fit the contours of the legs. It is lightweight but offers sturdy and durable support, latex-free and permits the knee to be easily flexed without the usual joints and locks attached mechanically. It also affords better control, comfort and increased compliance to the wearer.

The Swedish knee cage is designed with a cage-type frame which is formed as a rigid unit. There is a principal objection with its use as patients often grumble that it is lacking in cosmetic design because when the patient sits, there is a pair of uprights found in the upper level area well above the level of the knee and this protrudes and pushes it way from the patient’s clothes which can be very unsightly.

Another objection is that the cage, because it has minimal means of support on the leg, easily slips or moves up and down during use giving discomfort to the user. Because of this, there was an alternative design made which is a “three-way knee stabilizer” equipped with strap attachments which can be pivoted and make the device more cosmetic. Nowadays, there are already a lot of new inventions making it better and better as more objections were seen in every invention.

Whether you have knee injury or just want protection from injury while playing your favorite sport which is football, knee braces are the sure protection for you as injuries in the football field are always possible. This game requires too much contact and impact with other players can often damage the knees and may often lead to surgery. Sometimes, even sudden stops and wrong pivots can injure the knee during the play. Knee stabilizers are needed to avoid injury or provide support to an already injured knee and one of this is by the use of knee braces.

Wearing knee braces for football lowers the risk of injury by protecting the knees allowing you to play for many years to come. That’s why it is important to choose a brace that will give the utmost protection to the knee. Football is one of the sports wherein players often suffer ACL ligament sprains and tears so that there is an urgency to address the need for protective bracing. There have already been studies done on the technology to be used as football players have the need for rigid knee braces for preventative purposes or after ACL surgery and coaches and trainers have recommended the use of these braces to their players, especially those who were injured previously or those with knee instabilities.

Advances in technology have designed ACL knee braces for football which are usually made of metal or carbon fiber framed braces and provides the maximum level of support to the players without restricting their movement at the knee joint. These braces reduce the extent of severity of the injury while providing added support and this improves the prognosis of the injury and lessening the recovery period. There are issues that came up regarding the use of braces saying it causes muscle atrophy, bone loss and weakness but it has not been seen with short term use during play or practice.

The risk of injury and subjecting oneself to surgery is a far more important consideration than issues of muscle atrophy with the use of the knee brace for only a short term. It is still strongly advised that consultation with a physician should be done before using these devices for protecting and stabilizing the knee during football games.

Elbow support works exactly the same as a knee stabilizer; wherein it is sported to provide protection from further injury and at the same time reduce the pain felt at the injured and its surrounding area, this time particularly at the elbows. Aside from the elbows, it also minimizes pain felt in the hands, wrist and forearm. It is comfortably made from soft and stretch linen outer material that is fitted at the elbow joints and is usually attached with the use of Velcro. Elbow supports should provide stability but does not restrict the movement of the joints and this is afforded by the elbow stabilizer.

These elbow supports are worn wrapped around the elbow providing extra elbow joint support. When these are worn around the arm, it supplies compression on the nerves and muscles near the elbow joint to reduce the pain. It is 2 inches wider than the regular or normal support. These are often used to treat carpal tunnel conditions affecting the fingers or the lower arm.

Elbow support has added stability when it contains metal or any hard materials that prevent it from moving. A common example of an elbow stabilizer is an elbow support used when playing tennis, a band or strap that is wrapped around the forearm or elbow joint to support the lateral part of the elbow and to reduce putting added strain and pressure on the tendons so that it can easily recover. It helps counteract contractions of the muscles involved by reducing the added stress that is placed on the tendons and muscles. In a tennis match, there is excessive overuse of the forearm muscles and the wear and tear hits the tendons and muscle attachments of the elbows, causing the pain.

Most elbow supports or braces are sold in medical stores and are available in different sizes, shapes and materials. Some of these have cushions made of gel that fits in between tendon and strap, provide more comfort and are even provided with magnetic pads believed to provide more healing properties and some with single or double straps. Products offering multipurpose supports to counteract the stress and pain are the most effective.

Running is considered one of the favorite sports of most persons, a hobby or pastime which they cannot do without as well as a regular exercise taken to burn their extra calories away. However, when knee pain is experienced while doing this much-needed activity, it’s time to turn to the use of knee braces for running. Aside from this, when athletes need to address knee injuries and other issues, they also have a need for these braces to make the sport of running as normal for them as possible. For these cases, they have to address the knee injury first before focusing on the sport of running.

Running as a sport can put a toll to the runner’s feet, as well as their whole physique. If they had been enjoying this for many years and made running their way of life or part of their lifestyle, pain in the knee is the common grunt and discomfort felt, as this is commonly the most affected area. Therefore, care must be taken in order to keep the knees from harm as well as provide knee stabilizers for support, to avoid knee discomfort and injuries which may later lead to surgery.

The use of knee braces for running is an inexpensive way of saving the knees from injury which may become irreversible through time, unless surgery is done to restore its original function. With its use, the stress and pain felt when running is eliminated as well as provide added protection to the knees to avoid further harm and injury since the use of braces while running can help stabilize the knee area and keep it from being prone to injury. There are several types of knee braces for running wherein runners can still enjoy different motions, increasing amount of distance covered, the kind of terrain where they usually do their activity as well as the kind of knee injury they are suffering from, which oftentimes give them discomfort and pain.

Runners have different needs depending on the kind of injury they have, the extent of that injury, the amount of stress placed on that injury, the pain felt when using the knees for running and this will all focus on the type of knee braces for running that is needed. All of these must be addressed before ordering in order to benefit from a low-priced, convenient, comfortable and well-designed knee brace that is suitable for running.

The use of magnets has been utilized in magnetic therapy and it is towards this context that magnetic knee support is recommended for knee protection after an injury. Choosing the first knee brace can be a tough job considering the many choices available as well as the type and severity of the knee injury. Purchase and use of the wrong support may lead to waste and it is highly advisable to consult a doctor and ask professional advice before making a final decision. Aside from cost, important consideration may also include the knee support function as these may cause more damage and too much support can also weaken the body’s natural system of healing. The knowledge of the right kind of knee stabilizers to purchase is needed to allow quick healing and normal function as soon as possible.

Magnetic knee supports are products manufactured and used as alternative medicine for knee therapy after an injury. Magnetic fields have been produced from magnets and believe to cause beneficial effects for the health. It can be used as sole treatment or can be used in combination with other therapies but is still safe. Aside from reducing pain and speeding up the healing process after the injury, it is said to improve the quality of one’s sleep.

Knee pain may be caused by injuries while playing or working, accidents, too much work or when one grows older. Most people prefer the use of magnetic knee braces than undergoing expensive surgery. It is the most natural way to stop pain in the knee region as it improves circulation of blood while relieving the pain. However, there are situations against its use such as when one is using a defibrillator, insulin pump and pacemaker, as the magnets may have an effect on the functions of these devices in the body. These are also avoided for those having open wounds and also those with skin problems such as dermatitis. It is also not advisable to use when rashes develops so it’s best to seek doctor’s advice along this matter.

However, as long as it doesn’t cause allergy and other effects to a person, this practice is very affordable and most often does not require knee surgery as the injury gets healed quickly and naturally.

Most sports injuries involve the knees, wherein it is often torn the wrong way during plays or when the player made a strong landing or impact on the court or when something hits the knee very hard and with force. In most of these cases, the use of protective products to lessen injury and reduce swelling immediately follows and this is often done with bandages. These are considered knee stabilizers to protect the knee from further damage as well as support the knees to regain its strength and heal naturally.

After an injury, knee bandages are used for protection especially those cohesive ones as these bandages stick to themselves, thereby offering a big help in reducing the swelling. These are also known as “Ace” bandages, and when used, will serve as a reminder to the injured person that he has an injury along that area of the body in order to avoid further injury. This will provide compression to the knee joint reducing the amount of fluid in the area and will therefore decrease the swelling in the knee. These also help to eliminate pain in the area, especially when used in conjunction with ice and anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and naproxen. With its use, time is needed to heal the injury and at the same time minimizing cost is afforded to the injured person.

Commonly sold in drug stores and pharmacy as well as in grocery stores and value markets, these are also commonly retailed in online stores. They range in size from 2 inches to 6 inches in width. It should be applied while ensuring that the skin is dry and very clean to avoid infection. It should be carefully rolled below the knee joint to cover the area which needs the most compression keeping it close to the knee as much as possible and secured in place with the use of clips, but cloth tape can also serve the purpose.

It is important that the bandage will be applied smoothly as wrinkles can lead to further skin injury. Additionally, this should not be worn tightly since it may also lead to skin discoloration, decrease in sensation and temperature as well as increase the pain felt. If the pain and swelling worsens, it is best to seek a doctor’s evaluation.

Knee bandages can still be recycled for future use when it remains clean after several uses. Easy removal is done by starting above the knee and wrap in the opposite direction from the direction in which it was first applied when rolled.

It has been found out that the use of magnets in alternative medicine is beneficial to health and this is the technology behind the use of magnetic wraps as knee stabilizers. For people who suffer from aching and painful knees as well as stiff knees, this is the best therapy and pain management product to use as it not only alleviates pain but prevents further injury and speeds up the natural healing process. It is a welcome relief from arthritis, sprains, sports injuries and other knee disorders.

Magnetic knee wraps are soft and comfortable wraps made of cotton and poly blend stretch with magnets attached that provide warmth and support for the knees. The special magnets it is equipped with create a long-range magnetic field which permeates into many substances, including the body tissues, particularly the knees. This contains about 10-18 magnets each measuring 0.05″ x 0.4″ in diameter and 1,000 gauss and the wrap includes a 4″ x 4″ inner ceramic pocket that will radiate infrared energy and warmth for the body naturally. The ceramic pocket may also hold hot or cold packs and it is easily put on because of its 8″ to 10″ wide “H” shaped design with Velcro, which keeps the knee open at the back for more comfort and convenience. The wrap fits the knee with a maximum of 17” circumference and can also be stretched at approximately 1″-2″.

The design of the magnetic knee wrap makes for easy application as it is wrapped securely around the knee without pulling it up over the leg, providing no extra difficulty to the already injured knee with bending especially if the joints are still unstable. Aside from providing the best support for painful knees, it also relaxes the muscles around the knees, as well as prevents painful cramps and regular spasms and reduces swelling; which are often felt accompanying pain. It is an able support to the knee muscles and ligaments while trying to regain strength after the injury. These are also used by athletes as a comfortable knee support while performing daily practices and exercises.

Aside from reducing the pain felt after the activity, it will enhance smooth movement of the knee functions. Its light weight makes it comfortable to wear whether at work, at play or even when exercising. It can be easily hand-washed and its durability is tested even with several years of use.

Understanding Knee Stabilizers and their Benefits
Knee stabilizers, often in the form of knee braces, can provide support for the knees, increase its stability, reduce the knee pain felt, and improve the knee protection. When finding ways for stabilizing the knees, especially for people who are experiencing knee pain and needs knee support, it is important to refer to professionals who are knowledgeable and have the expertise along this field. Oftentimes, people just rely on other people’s advices, but these people are not the right person to go to. Others make their own diagnosis, and this is not a good practice either. When it requires a major decision and you are already too much worried about your knees, it is a must to seek medical advice and a physician can give the accurate and exact decision on what to do about knee problems.

First and foremost, assessing the knee pain as to what level it has undergone will determine the need for the knee support. Other people decide to wear knee braces, as these can often minimize their discomforts as well as providing optimal support for their problematic knees. Assessment will determine up to what level of the support the knees need and this can be done by finding out how unstable are the knees, and rank it into mild, moderate or severe instability to finally decide if braces are really needed or what kind of braces are needed.

When a person decides on acquiring braces for the excellent knee protection, it is imperative to have knowledge of what these are, to be able to get the best value for their money, as these tend to be costly and is affordable only by some. Actually, there are two kinds of knee stabilizers, braces that are custom made and braces that are non-custom made. Custom made braces are the more expensive ones and for one seeking the utmost protection, this will provide the best support and perfect fit as this is doctor-recommended and made just for you. However, the non-custom made ones are not that bad either, because it also provides the same amount of support if you get to choose wisely from among those available for selection.

The final decision of using knee stabilizers for knee protection relies on the user and the physician’s advice. It is important that wise choice is made by the wearer for the utmost satisfaction in knee protection, comfort and convenience.
